Product Description

In 2003, Jovan Benito was introduced by her friend, Jennylyn Morada to her painter-brother, Jerry who straightaway caught his fancy. As the two went along with their relationship, her apprenticeship under him also began to commence which got her started to the rudimentary of oil painting. As part of her training, Morada left her a blank canvas in the studio to pursue anything that she liked and so she turned up a busy market scene with harried market vendors and shoppers donned in colorful Filipiniana attires all wanting to finish their morning tasks.

When drawing the eyes of her figures, Benito drew inspiration from the rounded eyes of his mongrel dog, Chaka to give her figures a choice of emotions. Morada then brought her first painting to Galerie Joaquin hoping to give her a dedicated place to exhibit her works. At this period, Benito created her Fernando Amorsolo inspired series of Fish Harvest, Market Scenes, Planting Rice and Rice Harvest which led her to her first one-woman exhibition, Eyes Wide Open at the Galerie Joaquin in 2007 highlighting her market scenes. The following year, Pan de Manila commissioned Benito to paint 2013 (Makulay at makabuluhang pasko ng pan De manila
