Lemuel Cunanan, Brings a kind of brooding often contemplative mood to his landscapes. There is muted stillness captured in the setting sun of his pieces, a calm dusk that welcomes the night, or hushed anticipation in the bukang liwayway. On the other hand, he can also render the sun in stark red hues of a raging fire, a long way away in the horizon, but a force to be reckoned with nonetheless. His flexibility in portraying the subtle and stark differences of light and shadow are hard-won and painstakingly learned with no formal art education.
