Collection: Julius Legaspi

I'm Julius Legaspi-a Filipino artist from Marilao, Bulacan, whose artistic journey began at the age of eight, sketching national heroes for school posters. From there, I pursued formal training at the University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts. Initially working in animation, I later chose to fully immerse myself in fine arts, where I discovered a powerful way to capture the essence of Filipino life.

Blessed with the skills to create, my soul is pushed every day to share this talent. My work portrays the richness of everyday life, blending vibrant expressions of Filipino culture with emotional depth. I'm drawn to the stories unfolding in ordinary moments-whether they reflect the dynamic energy of daily life or the quiet musings of the soul. Through my paintings, I aim to connect on a deeper level with people, evoking emotions and memories that resonate universally.

Alongside my artistic practice, l've devoted myself to teaching and community involvement. Inspired by my mentor Fernando Sena, I created WALO Visual Artists in 2012, a group that allows artists to contribute works for charitable causes, demonstrating the power of art to create positive change. In 2015, I founded the Philippine Pastel Artists, Inc. (PPA), the first national organization of pastel artists in the country. PPA has flourished into a thriving community, promoting pastel as a respected fine art medium.

In 2024, I launched The Travelling Pastel Project (TRAPP), a nationwide initiative offering free pastel workshops to schools and communities. The project has already impacted hundreds of students, providing greater access to the arts and creating new opportunities for people to engage with artists.

My recent works are heavily influenced by my passion for pastel painting. I've pushed the medium to its limits, combining technical skill with emotional resonance to create pieces that stand out in both national and international exhibitions. It's not just about expressing myself; it's about elevating pastel art and uniting Filipino artists who share my enthusiasm for this medium.

For me, art is not only a personal pursuit but a means to inspire, engage, and serve others. As I continue to evolve in my practice, I remain committed to the belief that art has the power to transform lives and communities.
