Abellana’s signature style has evolved over time. While his earlier practice centered on figurative works and genre paintings depicting the everyday lives of Filipinos, he has recently shifted his focus to still life compositions. Throughout both bodies of work, his mastery of chiaroscuro lighting—striking contrasts between light and shadow—remains a defining element.

 

In his current practice, he employs a more restrained, neutral palette that emphasizes subtle tonal variations and textural detail.
