Collection: Joel Cristobal
From his elementary days, when he first started sketching human faces, Cristobal’s passion for the visual arts never left, even in the years after college when he chose the excitement of a musician’s life, there was always time for doodling. This passion, coupled with a family supportive of his chosen path, has been his inspiration in the continued pursuit of his art.
His paintings highlight the laid back, peaceful everyday life of the ordinary Filipino in his local province, from the indefatigable farmer in his rice fields, the fisherfolk, to the man with his fighting cocks and the equally persistent marites with the latest gossip, sceneries he wants to preserve for the younger generation. His artistic process starts with a whole picture in the mind, breaking out into cubes as it hits the canvas.
