Collection: Jeff Bangot

Jefferson S. Bangot is a Davao based visual artist and an Art and Design teacher of Davao City National High School Senior High School program. He is a graduate of BSED major in Social Studies at Holy Cross of Davao College, and Fine Arts major in Painting at Philippine Women’s College of Davao. At an early age he was already fascinated with the art of drawing and painting and trained under the artist-environmentalist Mr. Ricardo Obenza Jr. Since High School he was already active in the Davao art scene and was once a member of the Davao Artist Foundation Inc. A devoted artist and art educator he was able to conduct numerous free art activities, art coaching, and workshops both in and outside Davao City and was able to participate in many group exhibitions. He believed that art can be an instrument to heal society and the solution of the human pursuit of becoming a better version of themselves. Thus, in 2013 he received the Culture and Arts Award given by the City of Davao.
 
         As an artist, Jeff is comfortable painting with oil and acrylic but he is also loved to create artworks using experimental mediums. His 2015 Metro Bank Water Media Category Semi-Finalist painting entitled “Bang Bang Kalembang” was painted using excess printers ink. Also, do mixed media works and even sculpture. Most of his paintings depict his commentaries in our contemporary life. Political, Socio-Cultural, Environmental, and even personal experiences fuel his enthusiasm to create art. For him, the primary purpose of art is communication and information thus he chooses to be a representational artist. Most of his artworks are done in series. Usually, he starts by writing down the idea of the series that he will be making, followed the different studies for the final painting. At present, he is working on the remaining pieces of his “Breaking Free Series” and starting a new series entitled “Crisscrossing Red Lines”. 

       Jeff is privilege to be a mentee of the renowned artist Kublai Millan. Together with his mentor, he was able to fulfill numerous art projects for the development of Culture and Arts in the county. “Project Lullaby for Peace” is a concrete example wherein he helped organized and paint to finish the longest mural painting in the city and maybe in Mindanao.
