Collection: Jayson Duclan
Born on March 6, 1993 in La Trinidad Valley, Benguet, Jayson Duclan hails from the proud Kankanaey tribe.
As a self-taught artist, Duclan began his artistic journey in portrait sketching and made it as his main source of livelihood. He found this as a better income alternative, since he quit school and left his job as an all-around employee in a bakery in Baguio City. Because of his proficiency in drawing, Jayson was later hired as an art teacher at a music and arts school. He eventually decided to become a full-time visual artist and participated in numerous art exhibitions and art-oriented outreach programs inside and outside the Cordillera region.
As a native in a rich cultural region in the Philippines, most of Duclan's works are inspired by the practiced traditions of the Igorot's as well as works derived from poems and stories that he believes he can articulate better through painting.
Besides exposure through numerous commissioned pieces, Duclan has also been featured several times in newspapers, magazines and TV. He was recognized as one of the most promising artists of Benguet during the last Benguet Indigenous Youth Arts Guild (BIYAG) Festival.
